Smart Fingerprint Access Authorization System

The Smart Fingerprint Access Authorization System is an ESP32-based smart security system designed to control access to a protected door using fingerprint authentication and manager approval.

Project Introduction The Smart Fingerprint Access Authorization System is an ESP32-based security system designed to provide controlled and secure access to a restricted area. The system uses a DY50 fingerprint sensor to identify registered users and determine whether they are managers or staff members. Managers are granted direct access after successful fingerprint authentication, while staff members require approval from a manager before the door can be opened. For staff access requests, the system uses a SIM800L GSM module to send an SMS containing the staff member’s identification details to the authorized managers. The manager can respond by sending an approval or denial message. When approval is received, the ESP32 activates a servo motor to unlock the door. The system also includes a 16×2 I2C LCD for displaying system status, green and red LEDs for indicating access decisions, and a buzzer for denied access or alerts. By combining biometric identification with SMS-based authorization, the project demonstrates an additional level of access control beyond ordinary fingerprint door-lock systems.

Problem Statement

Traditional access-control systems often depend on keys, passwords, cards, or simple fingerprint recognition. Although these methods can identify an authorized person, they may not provide an additional approval process when access is required by staff members.

The Smart Fingerprint Access Authorization System addresses this issue by combining fingerprint identification with manager-based SMS authorization. The system identifies the user through the DY50 fingerprint sensor. Managers are allowed direct access, while staff members must obtain approval from an authorized manager before the door can be unlocked.

This approach provides a controlled access process in which staff access requests can be reviewed remotely through SMS before the door is opened. The system therefore demonstrates how biometric identification, GSM communication, and automatic door control can be integrated into a single security system.

System Features

The Smart Fingerprint Access Authorization System consists of several integrated features that work together to provide controlled access to a protected area.

  • Fingerprint Authentication: The DY50 fingerprint sensor scans and identifies registered users.

  • User Classification: The system distinguishes between managers and staff based on their registered fingerprint ID.

  • Direct Manager Access: Authorized managers can unlock the door immediately after successful fingerprint verification.

  • Staff Approval Request: When a staff member is identified, the system keeps the door locked and sends an SMS access request to the managers.

  • SMS Authorization: Managers can respond with an approval or denial message using the GSM network.

  • Automatic Door Control: A servo motor unlocks the door when the required authorization is received.

  • LCD Display: The 16×2 I2C LCD displays information such as user identification, access status, and approval requests.

  • Visual and Audio Alerts: Green and red LEDs indicate access status, while the buzzer provides an audible indication for denied access or alerts.

  • ESP32 Controller: The ESP32 coordinates fingerprint identification, SMS communication, display information, and door control.
